Research has shown that every child exposed to a traumatic event will suffer some degree of anxiety, depression or adjustment disorder. The longevity of these symptoms is lessened when the child receives supportive counseling as soon after the event as possible.
Testimonial:
"…would have been nice if someone could have consoled them (the children) the night of the fire. "Parents have hard time consoling the kids because they are having a hard time dealing with it (the fire) themselves."
"Night of the fire…kids sat on wall in shock while my husband and I were busy with the firefighters…my oldest daughter was walking down the street, crying because she thought the fire was her fault"
" . . . my daughters, who are 13 and 15 came home from school upset because rumors were started as to how the fire started . . .when they asked to speak with the school counselor, told no."
